When I think of the Hotel Roanoke, I have fond memories of rare trips taken as a child with my parents to Roanoke to shop and especially to stay at the Hotel Roanoke. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. And more fond memories of special events attended there with my husband - dances in the ballroom - how romantic - leaving me breathless. And even now, every time I see the Hotel Roanoke, all those fond memories come rushing back and it still takes my breath away. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away. Thanks for the memories.

I remember coming to the Hotel Roanoke as a child with my parents. We would usually arrive by train from Bluefield, West Virginia. We lived in Tazewell, Virginia, and Roanoke was the only superior shopping venue available to my mother. At times, many members of our extended family would meet and enjoy the Hotel Roanoke together. It was always a great treat for the family children to have dinner in the Regency Dining Room. It was very formal at the time, and service was impeccable. We visited the hotel many times, and my memories of the same are always pleasant and nostalgic. My husband and I are planning to visit in the near future. When I think of Roanoke, my thoughts drift back to the Hotel Roanoke. Keep up those traditions!

My husband and I held our wedding reception at the Hotel Roanoke on a very snowy day--March 1, 1980. That day the state of Virginia experienced the biggest snow storm it had seen in 100 years. Because the weather was so bad, many of our guests weren't able to get to Roanoke, but those who attended our reception had a memorable experience. The turnout was so small, I actually remember everyone I talked to that day! After my husband and I left our reception, my in-laws had a picnic of left over reception food in their room.
Despite the weather, our time at the hotel has always been one of the more memorable times in our marriage and we always enjoy returning to my hometown, Roanoke.

I have spent many occassions at Hotel Roanoke. One being my senior prom in the original Crystal Ballroom. When I think of home and I always picture Hotel Roanoke.

I have wonderful memories of the
years I worked at The Hotel Roanoke.
My wife and children all remember the love and generosity of Mr. Gary Walton, Mr.Phillip Davis and the entire Hotel Roanoke Family.
If it was serving Christmas Dinner to the late Reverend Jerry Falwell in the Virginia Room or delivering Room Service to
Mr. Steven Tyler of the Rock Band Aerosmith, it was truly a pleasure to serve and be a part of the history of The Hotel Roanoke.
Sincerely,
Pastor Neil T. Murphy

On November 9, 1943 I was married to Frank Wilson Rogers (US Navy) in Lynchburg Virginia. The ceremony was at Trinity Methodist Church. A former beau of mine (Army man)tried to disrupt the proceedings but my mother, Helen Barlow, Gunter intervened and the marriage went on as planned. As gas was being rationed during WWII we only had enough coupons to travel in-state. We chose the Hotel Roanoke as it was the most beautiful hotel we had seen. The Dogwood place settings have been in my memory since then. As my husband had on his Navy 'dress blues' when we entered the lobby, he received a salute from an Admiral (who shook his hand and congratulated us) with a bemused smile. The bell hop asked us why we were there and we told him we had just gotten married in Lynchburg and were on the first night of our honeymoon. He looked me up and down in an admiring fashion and told Frank that if I were 'his' bride, he would have stopped off in Bedford to honeymoon and not driven all that way! The next morning we left but not before I found out the hotel staff had 'frozen' my wedding bouquet by putting in the freezer and not the refrigerator. All in all we had a great time and have visited several times since those years! Keep up that good Southern hospitality!

I first stayed at the hotel in 1968 with the Beta Club from Crewe High School. I remember having to run your hand along the the door facing before touching the handle so not to get a shock after walking across the plush carpet. Our rock and roll band brought our equipment up to the room, played a few songs, and was squelched by hotel management. Needless to say we spent the next night in another hotel.
