CELEBRATE MARDI GRAS AT HOTEL ROANOKE
Charity Benefit to Aid Rebuilding Efforts Along Gulf Coast
ROANOKE, Va. - (Feb. 10, 2006) - Experience the magic of Mardi Gras in Roanoke with a spirited and exotic celebration sponsored by the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, a Doubletree hotel.
The historic hotel will host the first annual Mardi Gras Ball fund-raiser on Friday, Feb. 24 - a community event to raise money to rebuild the Gulf Coast region ravaged by Hurricane Katrina and support people still recovering from its aftermath.
Mardi Gras, or "Fat Tuesday," is the traditional New Orleans celebration held the day before Ash Wednesday.
Proceeds of the ticket sales will benefit Habitat for Humanity, whose volunteers are rebuilding homes along the Gulf Coast, and the MusiCares Hurricane Relief Fund, established by the Recording Academy to support musicians directly affected by the disaster. Proceeds also will help to purchase building supplies needed for the rebuilding effort. The Hotel Roanoke also will make a contribution to these causes.
"We truly support and appreciate the efforts of the Hotel Roanoke to coordinate and host this fabulous event designed to celebrate the history and tradition of New Orleans," said Betsy Whitney, development director for Habitat of Humanity in Roanoke. "The money raised at the Mardi Gras Ball will help Habitat for Humanity build more homes along the Gulf Coast so more families can rebuild their lives."
MARDI GRAS BALL DETAILS
The fun begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. outside the Roanoke Ballroom featuring light hors d'oeuvres and The Lenny Marcus Jazz trio. Costumes and masks are encouraged. At 7:30 p.m., partygoers can make their way into the Roanoke Ballroom and enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres and dancing to live Mardi Gras party music featuring more than 20 of the best musicians playing jazz, rock and blues. During the event, the Hotel Roanoke will salute the unsung local heroes of the rebuilding effort.
Tickets are available in advance or at the door for $25. Advance ticket purchases include an authentic Mardi Gras throw.
For those who wish to spend the night, rooms are available at a special rate of $89 per double occupancy, based on availability. You must purchase tickets to the ball to be eligible for this rate.
