ROANOKE, Va. - (August 21, 2006) - The Regency Room at the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center, a Doubletree hotel, has received an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine for its wine selections.
The magazine's Aug. 31 issue cites The Regency Room for "a well-chosen selection of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style."
The Regency Room has earned this distinction seven straight years.
"We are honored to be one of only a few restaurants in southwestern Virginia selected by Wine Spectator offering an outstanding choice of wines," said Gary Walton, general manager of the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center. "Our carefully selected wines are sure to complement any dish or palate in an elegant setting."
The Regency Room selects its wines based on recommendations from Wine Spectator, management's discretion on appropriate wine pairings with featured menu items, and on customer feedback on their tastes and preferences. The restaurant strives for a range of international and domestic vintages to appeal to a broad range of tastes while showcasing Virginia and local wines to give the selection a regional flavor.
The Regency Room, first opened in 1938, has long exemplified excellence in local dining. The restaurant, under the direction of executive chef Billie Raper, features continental cuisine and is open year-round, including holidays. The Regency Room has been recognized as a Distinguished Restaurant of North America and has received the highly sought DiRoNa Award since 2002 - one of only 12 restaurants in Virginia.
