PASSENGER RAIL RETURNS TO VIRGINIA'S BLUE RIDGE!
Amtrak, DRPT, and The City of Roanoke are working to bring intercity passenger rail service back to Roanoke for the first time in four decades. The Northeast Regional service will provide a same-seat trip to and from Roanoke and to Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, and other cities along the Northeast Corridor! Service is expected to being October 2017.
The $9.9 million platform will parallel the tracks for more than 800 feet near Norfolk Avenue, just across the tracks and within walking distance from The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center, according to current plans. Amtrak passengers will be permitted to bring carry-on luggage, purchase refreshments in a cafe car, ride in a “quiet car” on a first-come, first-served basis and use free WiFi.
